Cultural Narratives: sensual awakening in the age of reason
“The ocean never made jewelry, it only created the physical laws of light.”
The necklace dissolves the static feel of traditional pendants with a 3D fluid topology, and the back is laser engraved with the coordinates of the Rymill manuscript (p. 207 of Ocean Crystallography), a metaphor for the dispelling of mysticism by science. Pair it with a titanium chain to reinforce the industrial aesthetic, or mix it with pearls to pay homage to the diversity of marine life.
Inspiration: the bionic revelations of the North Atlantic Ocean
Nordic mythology tells us that the tears of mermaids condense into “moon pearls”, whose optical properties were deciphered by the 18th century biologist Antoine Rémyrre in his Crystallography of the Seas. This necklace replicates its hydrodynamic form, with a teardrop bionic cut that mimics the light interference effect of the iridescent cells of the squid's epidermis, and a lab-grown D-color carbon-silicate that has a fire intensity 2.4 times that of diamonds.
